Jochen Mühlenbrink is a German painter. By executing seemingly natural optic effects in paint, his works are investigating the ambiguity of reality and visual boundaries. They are depictions of physical reality and fictitious images at the same time. We can never be sure, what we see, what we really look at. And even if we recognize an artistic illusion, our idea of reality is upset: we are simultaneously convinced by the power and autonomy of pure paint. Mühlenbrink seems to test the limits of perception and testifies the unlimited possibilities of painting.
